Our guest in this week’s Responsible Innovation story is Tatjana Oppitz. As former Country General Manager of IBM Austria and current Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Digitalization at Vienna University of Economics and Business, she brings together the perspectives of industry and academia.

“The future of digitalization requires digital literacy, to understand what lies behind technologies”

What technologies will shape the future?

“Blockchain, Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence will transform the future. We can currently detect the positive impact of new technologies in some sectors. However, the digital transition will revolutionize the global economy.”

How do these technologies affect daily life?

“We already have technologies in our pockets which we are providing with our data. It is critical to bear in mind that the data we are giving away is being used. Therefore, we have to ensure awareness about the risks of technologies among citizens.”

Our most important insights from this interview with Tatjana Oppitz:

  • To get the most out of digital transformation, everyone in the digital society has to understand what lies behind technologies.
  • Digital awareness among citizens must be further developed.
  • Digital literacy and lifelong learning processes are key to securing responsible behavior among citizens.
